Move in Solidarity

European Solidarity Corps

Project Reference: 2020-3-EL02-ESC11-006599

Description

The Move in Solidarity project was a project that included volunteering activities aimed at integrating young people with fewer opportunities and supporting them through the volunteering experience to sharpen their skills and abilities through solidarity.

The young people, volunteers, partners and all the organisations involved in this program aspired to promote volunteering, active participation of young people in civil society, participation in actions that support culture, solidarity, equality, respect for diversity, social inclusion and inclusion of people in social exclusion.

Another key objective was to promote a structured dialogue between all organisations and policy makers. Volunteers had the opportunity to come together with people of different cultures, and to grow both personally and socially, developing their personal, social, and professional skills and competences, and strengthening their self-confidence and self-esteem through their participation in the activities.

Additionally, by living and working together with people from different countries, the project aimed at giving the opportunity to the participants to develop their intercultural communication and learning skills, improving, as a consequence, their interpersonal skills and developing a deeper understanding of the beauty of diversity in the wider European Community.

Through this project, we wanted to give the chance to all parties involved (the partner organizations, the participants, as well as local people and organizations) to develop their capacity and broaden their horizons and cultural awareness competence.

Objectives

The objectives of the Move in Solidarity project were:
- To support young people with fewer opportunities, especially those of high-risk social groups, to develop their competencies through participation in a comprehensive learning programme, as well as give the volunteers the opportunity to be trained in business education and social entrepreneurship and the way social Cooperative companies are created, what is their impact and role in society and how they can be a solution to combating marginalization and unemployment. Target groups in this objective were young people with fewer opportunities (people with special needs, school drop-outs, Roma, immigrants, etc). The volunteers participated in this objective supportively and actively by organizing, together with local volunteers and other foreign volunteers in Kalamata, non-formal learning activities for these individuals.

 - To organize educational activities of collaborative learning with groups of young people of the city in order to create educational tools for young people by the young people themselves. To achieve this goal, we collaborated with the Directorate of Secondary Education of Messinia and the Center for Environmental Education, which use the tools we create with groups of young students.
- Taking action to alleviate the consequences of the pandemic and the impending economic crisis.
- Promotion of volunteerism, cooperation, respect of diversity, creativity, culture, active participation, inclusion of people with disabilities, psychological and social support of people with fewer opportunities, solidarity.
